One of my hosts shows a big set of pending WUs (few hundreds), they all were sent on 19 Jan 2017 19:31:48 UTC. Results delivered later are being credited normally and other hosts of mine do not show pending tasks.

Any hint on what happen to these WUs?

I think you're right, I arrived home and found many (several hundred) finished and uploaded tasks but not reported.I click the update buttom but the connection timed out several times before getting the units through and they appeared as"pending". Finally after some days the units were declared successful and got credit

The large quantity of unreported tasks were accumulated in one of those 24 hours back-off periods and also there was some server outage during those days,
