My laptop's CPU does 40 GFLOPS (according to LINPACK), 19 GFLOPS slower than the CM-5/1024 Supercomputer from June 1993.
Now... if we measure it core-by-core performance, my laptop does 10 GFLOPS per core vs the 0.058 GFLOPS per core of the CM-5/1024.

I wonder how my cellphone stacks up to these ancient supercomputers.

And there's a contender for the #5 position on the TOP500 list... BOINC!

If you wanted to include ASIC/FPGA computation, it would soundly be #1.
