I've been doing this for years now... well, off and on...and I've never completed a result that was "lowest energy".

This guy has been doing it for a month, has a total credit of 241 and a RAC of 9. A cursory glance through the list of past predictors of the day also yields a number of those charity engine users (cexxxxxxx users) that flooded in a couple of months ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered in the least. I'm more amused than anything... I'm chuckling to myself as I write this. Should I not be using a twelve hour run time and use something shorter? Is processing time not being used as efficiently as it could be with a shorter run time?

Today I just racked back in a bunch of crap servers I had laying around at work and got them crunching. This thing won't beat me. :)

Basically, I'm just wondering, am I doing it wrong? LOL

I think you've got it right Polian. If you don't make a profit with 100 change machines installed, maybe installing another 100 will give you some economies of scale :) Keep attaching servers until you become POD!

But seriously, no, the longer runtimes are actually more efficient. You only endure the startup overhead once for all of the models crunched under that task (since it sounds like perhaps you run 24x7).

This thread is about "Predictor of the day", the account with the lowest energy prediction on any given day. "User of the day" does depend on having a profile but is run under a completely separate process.

Rather unsurprising. Charity Engine was producing 80 Teraflops per day (1/4 of the entire speed of Rosetta at the time) for a period of two months. On probability alone "ce" accounts should have been popping up every fourth day, though the odds of a specific "ce" account getting the title are still astronomically small.

A statistic I never knew existed. I am fairly new to the project myself, ran it because our team had this as our Project of the Month. So I helped out. It is kind of hidden if you do not look well. I was trying to find it on the left most menu off the main page, but it was not there. Then I tried several sub menus, but never found it. Low and behold it is just on the main page in what I consider the news feed area, so I did not realize it was there until now.

I took your advice, but since I'm out of physical boxes, I spun up three dual-virtual core VMs each on Microsoft Azure and Google Compute. Windows 10 preview on Azure for fun (could have gone linux but felt like playing) and OpenSUSE on Google.

Actually, this was just a weak excuse to explore cloud services which has been on my to-do list for ages now. It will be interesting to note the performance differences between the two services. Right now Microsoft is offering $200 free trial credit over 30 days and Google is offering $300 over 60 days. If my calculations are correct three dual core VMs each should last almost a month on either before free trial credit is exhausted.

Sheesh, you're right... With computing power available when Rosetta first launched, even a million seemed completely out of reach. The first box I attached was a 4U Dell monstrosity...I think it weighed 200 pounds... quad-CPU (one core each at that time, of course :) ) 700MHz Pentium-II based Xeon, although it may have been a PIII. Can't remember; slept since then :)
