It is true that the android devices are typically 10x slower than the std desktop cpus and there is a high rate of error likely due to memory issues and preemption. Good vibrations.... :-P We already have over 200,000 registered android devices which is almost greater than linux and mac combined. But 200000:10 are 20000 pcs (A single gpu, for example, can crunch as 100 smartphones) |

It is true that the android devices are typically 10x slower than the std desktop cpus and there is a high rate of error likely due to memory issues and preemption. I must note the high rate of error is not general. It is device specific. Some devices like Samsung seem to work well with Rosetta. There is a wide variety of devices and vendors that use customized versions of android and hardware configurations that may or may not play well with Rosetta. Hopefully this will improve in the future as will the processing speed and memory. |

Rosetta on android continues, for me, to be a waste of time and resources A waste of time and resources is a smartphone that stays 8-10 hours in charge, during the night, without BOINC. I have 2 smartphones (and one with an Intel Atom CPU but not compatible with the Rosetta app), 2 tablets, 2 Android mini PCs and I'm going to buy other 2. I really care about this project. Now they're running World Community Grid but I'd prefer to run R@H. Hopefully this will improve in the future as will the processing speed and memory. Hopefully....in the future....maybe... SSEx/Avx extensions, for example, are here NOW 64-bit computing, other example, is here NOW |

A waste of time and resources is a smartphone that stays 8-10 hours in charge, during the night, without BOINC. I don't think it's a waste of time at the end. With specific code and optimized apps, smartphones are good for crunch (WCG or astronomical projects). Rosetta's team has to re-write large part of the code to have a "good" app on android (or continue to wait the future for better arm cpu, hopefully). Rj5 said that with little changes we can have optimized app on cpu with computational increase (before other deep optimizations). Why not to start with these? |

http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/show_host_detail.php?hostid=99949 With that money I get the phone plus free internet and calls (inc int'l EU roaming) for 2 entire years and only pay for it monthly over that time |

So.... How goes the availability of Android work units? |

Whisper it quietly, but Android tasks turned up two days ago. And the credits are... err... blimey... |

Yep I started getting some. Points on this project are already fairly low for CPUs, Android work can only be much lower. |

Yep I started getting some. Points on this project are already fairly low for CPUs, Android work can only be much lower. Quite the opposite. Claimed credit ~180, granted ~500 - double and treble what I get for my desktops and laptop. Not that I'm complaining, you understand... |

What is the status of BOINC on Android today? The BOINC app says "Nothing to do... waiting for tasks." I have a whole bunch of 8-core tablets ready to go. Gimme work. |

I have a whole bunch of 8-core tablets ready to go. Gimme work. Goes on Ralph, there is a consistent android queue with new app version... |

I used to start WUs on my phone but since they're more needy than WorldCommunityGrid I only run these. Now on my desktop PC I stopped Rosetta WUs because it seems to clutter requesting Lattice WUs. These are really rare and so it happens that my server runs out of WUs altogether. When I again allow new tasks from Rosetta the event log says: Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:09 CET | rosetta@home | work fetch resumed by user Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:09 CET | rosetta@home | update requested by user Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:10 CET | rosetta@home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:10 CET | rosetta@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:13 CET | rosetta@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:13 CET | rosetta@home | No work sent Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:13 CET | rosetta@home | Rosetta Mini for Android is not available for your type of computer. Why is that? On my AMD64 desktop PC! My phone is not active here anymore: Last time contacted server 27 Jul 2016 21:41:27 UTC Running BOINC because: 1) I'm using 100% green energy (no certificates or other non-sense) 2) My computer runs mostly anyway (due to BT and other non-sense) 3) To help |

Fri 20 Jan 2017 15:39:10 CET | rosetta@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU Please, read other thread Rosetta Mini for Android. And here, some benchmarks for new (3.77 in test on Ralph) app for android. Not at all encouraging. |

Please, read other thread TYVM for that. I wanted to rate your post positively but that didn't work out. |

New Visual Studio 17 has a lot of improvements, including new version of c#, a preliminary support for c++17 and a complete support to write code for Android/ios/WinMobile (Xamarin)... https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/cplusplus-mdd/ https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/debugging-and-diagnostics/ https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/testing-tools/ |

Yes, you can. Better to point a fan on the phone to ensure good refrigeration. |
