I know it would take longer to do project work. Any harm in setting a computer to only 50% of the processor load?

Have a computer nothing new but Pentium 4 2.0Ghz in speed. Where it is localted is kind of warm not very well ventilated. Also is my personal website. Wanna keep from damaging the system itself. The only side affect, if it is really one, is that the processor load for projects jumps all over the place. Guess it is trying to maintain the 50% usage I told it?

Thanks!

Right, there's no way to run something at 50%, so BOINC runs it for 100% for a few seconds and then suspends it (i.e. 0%) for a few seconds. It successfully addresses the processor temperature issues, and minimizes the impact on getting useful work done.

You should see that over the course of about every 10 seconds the average is right at your preference. Or if you happen to catch an odd second on the clock, you might see it toggle 10% low for one 10 second interval, and then 10% high for the next.
