yoyo@home to bring evolution@home under a Boinc wrapper: In the next phase evolution@home will be wrapped. For all those, for whatever their reasons, looking for a new Biology distributed computing project to support, this may be an option for you to consider: "We want to support research that helps to understand evolution. We believe this is important for our society, as it helps to understand vital topics like the impact of man on this planet, the extinction of species, the evolution of pathogenic bacteria and the meaning of genomic sequences. Increasingly complicated mathematical models are needed for futher progress. A thorough analysis of these models often requires more computing power than available for a typical research group in evolutionary biology. Thus we started evolution@home, the first global computing system for evolutionary biology. It allows you to contribute your unused CPU-power to some of the most intriguing questions in science today by downloading and running the corresponding simulators." More about evolution@home here |

On inspection of the links you have provided, it seems that the BOINC wrapping is still rather notional. It is possible I have overlooked something. Rosie, Rosie, she's our gal, If she can't do it, no one shall! |

Not certain what you meant by "rather notional". yoyo@home has successfully Boinc-wrapped the distributed.net client and runs OGR work units. This project searches for the shortest Optimal Golumb Ruler of the length 25. With respect to evolution@home, the title of this thread includes the words "to be", and the links indicate "Tests starts in the next days/weeks." |

22 November 2007 The first beta of evolution@home is running and it runs better than expected. The results contains already real usefull simulations which will be send back to the author. Thanks to rebirther for the logo update. BTW: If somebody wants to develop a nice screensaver send me a mail. |
