What are the credits measuring? Why are they being tracked? |

"credits" are just a measure of how much computing you have done for the project. The project keeps track of them as you report back your finished work. They are used mostly by teams to compare which team can crunch the most. For now, don't worry about them. Credits is sometimes complicated :) As you post on the message boards, it shows your total credits and your RAC (Recent Average Credit). RAC is a measure of how quickly you are earning credits. It's sort of a moving average of credits earned. You can use that (and the date they joined the project) to give you a feeling for how long the person has been crunching Rosetta. Credits is sometimes complicated :) Ok. I get that, I have been searching ror an answer to Kashii's question though: What are the credits measuring? I want to convert Credits approximately at least into CPU Time. Is this possible? if not, is it possible at all to get a total CPU time for an account or a computer? I've looked I can't seem to find it. Are credits based off any sort of "real" measurement. Thank you. |

I want to convert Credits approximately at least into CPU Time. Yes, it is possible. If you left the Target CPU Time in your Rosetta Preferences unchanged, each work unit runs approximately 3 hours, which is 10800 sec. You just search for a unit that is very close to that (e.g. 10803.23 sec) and note its credit. If you divide it by 3 you get your credit per hour (as long as you do not change the configuration of your PC). If you now divide your current credit by that number it always gets you your current CPU time. Are credits based off any sort of "real" measurement. On Rosettas home page you find these numbers: Credits last 24h : 3,853,310 TeraFLOPS estimate: 38.533 As you see, 1 credit is 1/100th of one day of computing time on a PC with a speed of 1GFlops Here is more of the exciting and time consuming world of getting to understand credits ;-) |

...is it possible at all to get a total CPU time for an account or a computer? Yes, in BOINC Manager, go to the Statistics tab. Click the "show host total" or "show user total" button at the left.
