Hi Fuzzy,

I noticed you closed several of your threads on other boards all at the same time, and I think I may be able to guess why.

I don't want to get into the whole side-taking stuff - both 'sides' seemed to contain people whose previous postings I had enjoyed and as always, online or face to face, it saddens me when friends fall out.

It saddens me further when other people's arguments make me lose contact with one or other of them.

It can be wise to duck out when flames start - but not for ever I hope. It can be wise to keep out of threads started by a few other people, but not to keep off the boards totally.

I really look forward to seeing a FH posting sometime soon, here, on Orbit, or maybe (later maybe?) on Einstein. BOINC would not be the same without your little graphics and your other humourous contributions. Come back soon, or if not at least come back sometime

River~~

I look forward to seeing your name again when you are ready

Hi River~~! I'm here at Rosetta.

I think you have read the posts in question, so you know what has happened.

But I'm here at Rosetta, I went from Einstein to here, so Einstein's loss is Rosetta's gain. But no, I have no intentions ever to go back to Einstein let alone post on their boards again. There are too many malicious and deliberately spiteful people there who spread lies about me. So I choosed to close my threads over there and walk away without looking back.

And I have left TFFE in Seti and Rosetta and joined BOINC Synergy instead, so I also find it untimely to keep a team recruitment thread, where I in the first post advertise for a team, I'm not crunching for anymore. I can't recruit for TFFE anymore. So I closed the team recruiting threads both at Einstein and at Seti and asked people to start new ones themselves.

But I'm still around! I crunch LHC, when they have WU's and else let Seti and Rosetta get my ressources.

And yes, we had fun together! Orbit is Cafe Ghosttown now, nothing is going on there, and since Pasquale hasn't made a Windows client, it has almost died out, but it was so funny back in the Cafe thread and in the Kenny thread, where we said everything in Kenny. NA and I was having our usual ping-pong and we even had a fight and made up all in Kenny, and you came and helped him with his idea of a BOINC project in chess. You actually gave him some very good advise, which I'm sure he appreciated at lot and learned from. All in Kenny! And the code you and he posted stretched the thread so much! LOL It was so funny! :-D We had a ball these days!

And occasionally also a little over there! ;-)

But I'm still at Seti, most in the Cafe, and here, where I put a remark in, where I have something to add. But Bill Michael is doing a great job, and there's very little I can add.

And thank you for you kind words! And here's a couple of Fuzzy smilies for you

And a Fuzzy kiss for you

So I'm still busy or crunching. :-)

OOOOH! I was most overcome for a moment there.

...
I think you have read the posts in question, so you know what has happened.
...

yes. My take is that an argument between two people got out of hand, and that more people then joined in on both sides - all intending to support a friend but with all the best intentions making the overall situation worse. And that is the most I intend to say about it publicly.

The wisest thing to do in such a situation is to walk away as you have done

But I'm here at Rosetta, ... I crunch LHC, when they have WU's and else let Seti and Rosetta get my ressources.

hmmm, maybe I'm being too nosy but it is curious that BOINCstats shows you separately for SETI and for the other projects:

Maybe you never run SETI on the same client as Rosetta? If you ever do then Willy's software will spot that you are the same person on both projects. It will also boost your position in the overall world stats (if that matters to you)

And yes, we had fun together! Orbit is Cafe Ghosttown now, nothing is going on there, and since Pasquale hasn't made a Windows client, it has almost died out,

he hasn't made a proper Linux client yet either, less than 100 cobblestones have been awarded so far in total across all users! He says he is looking for funding, maybe nobody told him he doesn't have to pay for the cobblestones himself ;-)

but it was so funny back in the Cafe thread

My favourite thread was when we were making suggestions about a suitable graphic for the Orbit homepage and some of us were not taking it quite so seriously as others... and some of the obvious jokes got serious responses

and of course the Kenny thread started when Pasquale asked about other language threads and a someholly gave K-speak as an example...

a good mix of work and play

and I am sure it will be again when there is some work to keep us interested - it's almost as quiet in the LHC cafe and that is with a 3-week break.

Bill Michael is doing a great job

agreed

and there's very little I can add.

Hi again River~~.

I have been busy the past days, but now it's time to answer you.

OOOOH! I was most overcome for a moment there.

:-D

yes. My take is that an argument between two people got out of hand, and that more people then joined in on both sides - all intending to support a friend but with all the best intentions making the overall situation worse. And that is the most I intend to say about it publicly.

Yes, and I'm sure that those people, who have read the boards and read my postlists, by now know me well enough to judge for themselves. I have recieved messages and private mails from people, who have read what was going on, telling me that I was treated badly.

But well, that's the risc you take, when you

Never mind, I'm outta there...

hmmm, maybe I'm being too nosy but it is curious that BOINCstats shows you separately for SETI and for the other projects:

Maybe you never run SETI on the same client as Rosetta? If you ever do then Willy's software will spot that you are the same person on both projects. It will also boost your position in the overall world stats (if that matters to you)

No, it's ok. This actually puzzles me also, because I only crunch on one computer and have done all the time. I have Seti connected to a different email adress than the others, but this shouldn't have anything to say? This is the only explanation, I can come up with, unless it's a bug in the program?

If you want to, I'll help out with more information about my accounts, and to Willy also, if you contact me on my gmail alias first name dot alias second name at gmail dot com. My own sig from Mundayweb doesn't show this phenomenon. I haven't made a sig in BOINC Synergy, as I don't like them and prefer my own with the pic of the Pleyads, so I don't know if that one will show the same. Maybe I should try it. But I really think it's a bug in Willy's program, as Myndayweb doesn't show the same.

And I'm not so stats oriented, even I want what's mine, and I want the position I've earned, but it's not a big issue for me.

he hasn't made a proper Linux client yet either, less than 100 cobblestones have been awarded so far in total across all users! He says he is looking for funding, maybe nobody told him he doesn't have to pay for the cobblestones himself ;-)

The last rumours I've heard through the grape wine is that he more or less has abandoned the project. The UOTD function has been shut down, luckily I got my UOTD mail :-D, and all in all, it looks pretty dead over there. I don't miss it, as I'm pretty happy with my present projects

but it was so funny back in the Cafe thread

My favourite thread was when we were making suggestions about a suitable graphic for the Orbit homepage and some of us were not taking it quite so seriously as others... and some of the obvious jokes got serious responses

Oh yes, I've just read that thread, and I think people really put a lot of efforts in the suggestions, and Pasquale could have sold a lot of t-shirts and get some money from it. He should have made hay while the sun shined, but as I remember it, he was very busy at that time making the (Linux)client, so he didn't have the time, and now almost all interest is gone. :-(

But here's the gif you liked so much

and of course the Kenny thread started when Pasquale asked about other language threads and a someholly gave K-speak as an example...

Yes, it came when the question about "allowed" languages came up with a huge discussion after that. And then one person throwed in the Kenny translator, and it took off! :-D We still use the Kenny speak from time to time, when we want to say something not for everybody to read, unless you have the translator.

a good mix of work and play

Yes, indeed! :-D I was actually in contact with NeoAmsterdam or NA yesterday, and he's very busy at the moment on university taking his Maximus cum Laude degree. So he doesn't have time to participate in anything else at the moment.

and I am sure it will be again when there is some work to keep us interested - it's almost as quiet in the LHC cafe and that is with a 3-week break.

Yes, people have a tendency to leave, when nothing happens, and I noticed that on LHC also, except for the usual "No WU's to get, why????" questions.
EDIT: I just updated my LHC account in my manager, and it said:

LOLL! :-D I'll try to ad some, when I can.

And I love my intellectual cat, which I use on all my projects, unless on Seti, where I use my diamond in the sky avatar.

Speak with you later. But contact me about the sig thing, because this is really weird. I've noticed also on some stats sites that the same is going on there, I don't know why.

Mystery solved!

I asked the Seti devs why I didn't have the Volunteer Tester tag on my Seti account, because I have crunched Beta WU's, and I got the answer here by Winterknight, that I don't have the same cross project identifier, because of the different email adresses.

I have now changed mail adresses, so let's see what happens, when they have the system updated.

But thanks anyway! :-)

yes, Willy goes by cpid, which afaik mundayweb doesn't.

When the cpid's sync then also so will the two instances of FH on BoincStats.

I hope you are wrong about Orbit@home - it should be a really good project if it ever gets off the ground (before It gets onto the Ground)

There were a couple of other projects that were real interesting ... I have been moving some of them into inactive off of the alpha/beta list as they are either dead (and I can confirm it) or they have just vanished ...

A shame, and yes, Orbit@Home is one I was waiting for myself ... there was a message recently about trying to capture funding from NASA ...

Pasquale has posted on the message boards within the last week and has not said that the project is closed down, so I am still hopeful (tho no longer holding my breath)

No no, it was just rumours. It was just something I saw a person post somewhere. But I must admit, that I thinks it's weird that he hasn't made a client more, Windows or Mac. But maybe he's busy with something else at the moment.

I just took a look at the boincstats site, and I'm still stated with two different numbers. I don't know how often they update over there, but let's see if the change of mailadress in Seti will unite them to one.

There was a post yesterday(?) that NASA turned him down, he is still working, but expects longer delays. And he did say that he was not giving up ...

I just took a look at the boincstats site, and I'm still stated with two different numbers. I don't know how often they update over there, but let's see if the change of mailadress in Seti will unite them to one.

There is a three stage wait.

First there will be a wait till SETI changes the cpid it uses for you, or if you are unlucky and it goes the other way, a wait till the other projects change their cpid.

Then you wait for the XML export from that project following the change in cpid. Projects export XML from one to four times a day.

Then you wait till the next main daily update at BOINCstats (usually around 1700 GMT). It could take 50 hours if you just miss an update each time.

R~~

edit: uh-oh :(

Rosetta has gone over to join SETI. This makes sense as the later clients prioritise the older project when merging cpids. When LHC comes on again, it should join the same one as SETI (it might even happen if you update LHC when there is no work). The bad news is that if all the projects are moving to join SETI you'll need to crunch another 1 or 2 Einstein wu somewhere down the line to get their stats lined up. This kind of complexity is why mundayweb do it differently of course...

I've just updated LHC, so let's see if that goes over to the Seti ID.

It doesn't matter, I can attach to Einstein again, and update and if I download a WU, I can crunch that. The problem is worse with Predictor, because I detached from there, because it crashed my electronic dictionary, which I use all the time, because you know, my native language is not English. I need my dictionary more than they need me to crunch for them. But I can attach and crunch a Predictor WU (if I can get some, I think I heard it was down over there?) while I'm watching a movie on tv.

Let's see how it goes. Thanks anyway, River~~ :-)

EDIT: I'm now attached to my all my projects (Except Seti Beta and Orbit), so the system should be able to detect, that they're all on one computer. The project in question is now LHC, how this will react, when there's no WU's to get.

LHC home page, 11:20 UTC 14 Jan:
Server Status

Up, 265065 workunits to crunch
no work in progress
31 concurrent connections

At present they are filling up the server and not letting any work go, (client still gets the "down for maintenance" message) but that can't last for long.

Soon I will be on my way again to my 10k on LHC target :)

yes, I remember knowing that once before, and I've noticed your lovely gifs all live in .ru - but I keep forgetting as your English is not noticeably foreign (less foreign to my Brit eyes than some of the US posts!)

However, it is also Saturday ... so I am not sure I would hold the breath ...

I now see that Predictor has moved over to Seti and Rosetta, so it seems that it's those, they move to. So now I can detach from Predictor and use my dictionary again. :-)

And I guess Einstein soon will follow. And as soon I've crunched a returned the LHC WU's I have in my cache, that will follow also. And the Beta WU, which seems like a monster, as I haven't the optimized client for it, will take some time to finish and upload.

River~~, where do I create the sigs, you posted?
